From the recording Farm Girl
About the Song
Produced by Grammy Award-Winning producer, engineer, guitar texturalist and performer, “Farm Girl” is a country-soul Americana track inspired by healing after loss and finding unexpected joy again through a blue heeler pup met on a farm, named Ellie Mae. The song blends warm roots instrumentation with emotional storytelling and a road-trip Americana vibe reminiscent of Brandi Carlile, Bonnie Raitt, and Lucinda Williams.
Lyrics
Farm girl dips her toes in water
Likes to roll out in the sun
Stands tall to look up at the blue sky
And she sure loves to run
O’ Ellie Mae
Where did you come from
Here to mend my heart
Now that my Summer's gone
She’s like a breeze on a summer eve
Full moon over a dark desert sky
Willow on a prairie field bending with glee
Oak in the front yard throwin’ shade back at me
Farm girl delight sittin’ right by my side
O’ Ellie Mae
O’ Ellie Mae
She has far too much to say now
Speaks whatever’s on her mind
She thinks she’s funny all the time now
But she is always kind
O’ Ellie Mae
How you love to sing
Voice floats through the air
Melody I need
She’s like a breeze on a summer eve
Full moon over a dark desert sky
Willow on a prairie field bending with glee
Oak in the front yard throwin’ shade back at me
Farm girl delight sittin’ right by my side
O’ Ellie Mae
O’ Ellie Mae
Farm girl dips her toes in water
Has keen senses it would seem
Looks into my soul with her sweet eyes
Seems to find the best in me
Now Ellie Mae
Time to go to sleep
Even in your dreams
You make me feel at peace
You’re like a breeze on a summer eve
Full moon over a dark desert sky
Willow on a prairie field bending with glee
Oak in the front yard throwin’ shade back at me
Farm girl delight sittin’ right by my side
O’ Ellie Mae
O’ Ellie Mae
O’ Ellie Mae
Story-
“Farm Girl” is a story of love, loss, and healing. After a difficult year marked by job loss and the loss of her home, Jeannie took to the road, living in her 40-foot school bus/studio alongside her bass player, her Australian Shepherd Wolfus, three pugs, and two cats.
During this time, her beloved Wolfus—her constant companion and confidant—passed away from complications related to diabetes, leaving a profound emptiness.
Months later, Jeannie traveled to a farm in Blairsville, GA, where she met a spirited Blue Heeler puppy in need of a home. Bringing her into the family sparked an unexpected sense of healing for everyone. Her name is Ellie Mae.
“Farm Girl” captures that journey—from heartbreak to hope.
“Farm Girl” comes from a very real place. After losing my job and home, I found myself living on the road in my 40 foot school bus/studio with my two cats and four dogs (three pugs and an Aussie) and my bass player. In the middle of that season, I lost my best friend—my dog Wolfus—and it left a hole I didn’t know how to fill.
Months later, Ellie Mae came into my life—a wild little Blue Heeler who needed a home as much as I needed her. Somehow, she helped bring light back into all of us.
This song is about that journey… from heartbreak to healing.
